A question of cinema etiquette

Posted on May 6, 2008 | 2 comments |

No one (okay maybe a few people) hates people who talk during movies more than I do. But, if you're high up in the Odeon Leicester Square in the row behind one of the dividers and your wife isn't tall enough to read the bottom of the screen when she's sitting down, is it acceptable to read the subtitles to her?

It's a tough one, but on at least one occasion I have had the 'chance' to sit by people giving a partner a word by word translation of an English language film to someone who clearly did not have English as their first language... it was less than fun (for me) and I'm not sure how much sense it made to the non-English speaker, but I did sympathise a bit with why they needed the translation...

In this case, it was Iron Man and there were about four subtitles... Does that affect things?
