And what's wrong with Mandrake? At least he has a history. Moreover, as a syndicated strip, he likely had, in his day, more readers than Ghost Rider ever managed.

Besides, it's an excellent opportunity to bring back that most nefarious of villainesses: the Brass Monkey. Oh yes, they knew how to name 'em in those days...

If they do bring back another 'Maverick', I hope they do it soon. Not that Garner is on death's door, but good health and good luck don't last forever.

And I hope it's firmly established that Garner's character is Bret Maverick sr., and not just "Pappy"!

I didn't mind Gibson as Bret Maverick, so long as he was Bret Jr.....

I saw Darren Star giving a talk once and he said that Candace Bushnell's writing was shit and the only reason they bought Sex and the City from her was so that they could use the title. I don't really think they're that close.

    "And what's wrong with Mandrake?"

Kind of liked him in the Alan Moore Swamp Thing stuff and Neil Gaiman's Books of Magic. Liked his daughter better. Not sure how much of an audience there is though.

"I didn't mind Gibson as Bret Maverick, so long as he was Bret Jr"

Hear hear. Bret Maverick didn't come here to lose to Mel Gibson.

    "Candace Bushnell's writing was shit"

My wife's read the book and is pretty much of the same opinion, so I can believe that.

You aren't getting Mandrake mixed up with Zatarra and Zatanna, are you?

I might well be. Oops. Mandrake was the one that was in Defenders of the Earth, I recollect now.

Zatanna (the daughter) is the one in the fishnet tights and the top hat, who does magic by talking backwards. Friend of John Constantine's in Gaiman's Books of Magic (which I'm certain JK Rowling never read).
