BBC Four's Spy Season

God bless you BBC4. Every so often you'll come up with a cracking idea for a season of programming, like last year's Ghost Story season. Now we've got 'British Spies Season'.

I can't seem to find an in-depth listing of what's in it, but there's definitely a bit of Spooks, a bit of Smiley (don't know whether it was Tinker, Tailor or Smiley's People) and some decent documentaries.

It probably won't include The Sandbaggers, that being a Yorkshire programme, but I live in hope. I'll keep you updated as I find out more.

UPDATE: The trailer's up on the BBC Four site.

Considering the snippets of Hywel Bennett and Ian Richardson in the trailers, I think it's Tinker Tailor, which is fab, because I never saw it. Hopefully, they won't show it every day like they had with I Clavdivs, because I kept missing episodes. I didn't see the entire reign of Caligula! How crap is that?

You might also have noticed a snippet in the trailers of Noel Coward talking about Ian Fleming and James Bond! Notably, he doesn't whistle once.

Me neither. I have very distant memories of Smiley's People. Both would be nice. I suspect it'll be a strip run of the episodes, probably two an evening, judging by the Spiral repeats they've just done.

Ooh. Caligula was juicy stuff. So far, only my PVR's watched the episodes, so I'm going to have to allocate some serious viewing time to watching them all. My hard drive's nearly full now. I'd never have remembered to record them all without it though. What a wonderful invention!

Maybe there's something to that whistling thing after all then.
